A new exhibit and some photo inspiration

Hello, May. Spring is showing herself here in the Monadnock Region. The daffodils and forsythia are just about finished, but today I spotted a painted trillium next to the driveway:

I’m spending a lot of time working on the vegetable beds. So far the deer and rabbits have been pretty good neighbors, although the really tender/tasty things are under cover. The deer ate all my comfrey. Bye, bye, comfrey. No comfrey tea liquid fertilizer this year. Oh, well.

The “Sprout” exhibit at the Healing Arts Gallery at the Monadnock Community Hospital has concluded. I was very pleased to have sold 3 pieces that were on display, including this one:

“Dogwood Bract”

My husband and I had the good fortune to visit the western coast of Ireland last month. We traveled a portion of the Wild Atlantic Way. We did a lot of hiking, which was a great way to counter our enthusiastic consumption of Irish butter. (We went to the Butter Museum in Cork. A gem of a place!) The weather was – wait for it – sunny, sunny, sunny! Unbelievable! We were so lucky. I will not share many photos, but here is one that is both representative of the conditions and also a source of inspiration for this week’s weaving:

The blues and teals and greens in this landscape are so beautiful; you just want to capture them and hold them. The colors have stayed with me, and I’ve taken a stab at weaving a few of the colors together :

Today I have started winding a warp for a piece that I plan to have in the Art, Craft & Design exhibit at the League of NH Craftsmen’s Fair in August. It’s going to be a warp rep piece, so there is a lot of warp winding to do as the threads will be densely sett. When there is something woven, I can share a photo or two here. Speaking of warp rep, I am leading a workshop at the LNHC Headquarters in Concord, NH on June 13, 2026 about adapting warp rep for the rigid heddle loom. Here is a link to the class description, should you be interested.

Happy weaving and thanks for reading,

Kate K.

  1. I love the Dogwood piece! And your colors for the second photo of your weaving. And… Ireland! How lucky, indeed! So beautiful! Thank you for sharing…
