“Materials to Masterpiece” Exhibit

Good day to you all. There are still patches of snow on the ground at our home in the Monadnock Region but Spring is trying hard to show herself. Our daffodils are really making an effort. My husband and I noted some shoots pushing up through the ice the other day.

I am pleased to be part of exhibit at the League of NH Craftsmen that is opening April 2, 2026:

The opening for this event is April 2, 2026 and I am very excited to explore the raw materials and tools that create the finished works of my fellow League members. This exhibit is part of a larger effort to promote fine craft, “Handwork 2026.” “Handwork 2026” is “a year-long collaboration among organizations, educators, and makers to celebrate the diversity of the crafts that define America.” Find out more about the “Handwork 2026” initiative below:

I’ve been acquainting myself with supplementary warps this month. My Schacht Baby Wolf loom has a double back beam and after some fiddling around and help from my husband (resetting plastic spacers to clear the heads of bolts) I am beginning to make friends with this accessory.

This weaving is a turned monk’s belt design. Up next will be a turned overshot weaving, and perhaps I will try using a different pattern warp yarn to see how the take-up and tension changes. The above runner/dresser scarf had one errant warp end which is discernible on the underside of the cloth, but the piece looks pretty enough for springtime on our coffee table:

I have one more newsy bit to share. My “Good Dog Collar” design may be found in “Little Looms, Summer 2026.”

I have seen the digital version of the issue and it is loaded with lots of fun weaving projects for rigid heddle, inkle, and pin looms. I hope you’ll check out the issue for yourself! Such fun.

Happy weaving, friends, and stay well.

Kate K.
